Project Overview
  • Total Time: 1 hr
  • Skill Level: Beginner

Many book-lovers think it is a sin to crease the page corners, so a handmade bookmark will be an appreciated gift. Plus, it's inexpensive and doesn't take much time to create. You can use a variety of paper for this, whether it's plain or colorful, matte or shiny. Construction paper, crepe paper, or tissue paper are perfectly acceptable, but if you want something fancier, check out paper options at your local art supply store.

What You'll Need

Equipment / Tools

  • Scissors
  • Bone folder (optional)

Materials

  • 1 sheet scrapbook paper
  • Floral embellishment of your choice

Instructions

  1. Cut a 7-Inch Square From Paper

Cut a 7-inch square from the scrapbook paper of your choice. Place the square printed side down.

  3. Fold the Paper Again

Open the paper square, keeping the printed side down. Fold the left corner inward at the centerfold, and then fold the right corner at the centerfold. Make sure you have crisp creases.

    Tip

A bone folder will help you get the creases as crisp as possible.

  9. The Completed Look

Your bookmark should look like the picture. If it doesn't, don't despair! It can take a couple of tries to get it right. Once you get the hang of it, you can make this in less than a minute.

  10. Add Embellishments

If you want to jazz up your bookmark, you can glue on an embellishment of your choice. We think the white paper flower makes the bookmark extra special.

  11. Package the Bookmarks

When you give your bookmarks to your friends and acquaintances as gifts, the right kind of packaging makes the marker look that much more unique. Put them in a clear plastic gift bag, then staple the bag together at the top. Add a printed bag topper with your particular sentiment. The bookmarks will look like they came from a boutique gift store!
